Ayrshire Farmers Market in Paisley

July 21, 2008

We are big fans of the Ayrshire Farmers Market which graces County Square in Paisley on the second and last Saturday of the month.

Stroll around the stalls and you will find much of the best produce this part of Scotland has to offer. Better yet, many farmers and stall holders will be keen to let you have a taste of their produce.

Guests at the Watermill often find edible souvenirs to take home. Admittedly some things are more portable than others (a jar of rich Scottish heather honey versus, say, a dozen eggs), but it is not hard to find inspiration.

Contact reception for details of how to get there. County Square is beside Paisley’s main railway station.

An evocative journey through the Waterways to Motorways exhibition, Paisley

July 9, 2008

Visit the Paisley MuseumCurrently pulling in visitors to the Paisley Museum in the High Street: an interactive exhibition charting the history of the Glasgow, Paisley and Ardrossan Canal. Waterways to Motorways has been created by the artist Colin Begg and the Work Matters Paisley group to bing to life the previously undiscovered history of the M74 motorway corridor.

The event includes exhibits from the former Glasgow, Paisley and Ardrossan canal including seven tea chests, each examples of the canal’s historical cargo as well as 19th century photographs of the canal and an interactive model of early 19th century life in the area.

Should be fascinating for anybody who can trace their Scottish heritage or family tree back to Paisley. The exhibition runs until 27 July 2008 and is just a short distance from the Watermill Hotel.
